scrimshank
We’re on spring break!
Well, my daughter is. I’m not, really. But it’s hard to concentrate on work when she’s out of school. So, I try to give myself a lighter work schedule when she’s out, if I can.
And that brings me to today’s edition of Beautiful Words. I’ve been trying to expand my vocabulary, and I like to share a new word with you each Tuesday. So, today I’ve chosen the word scrimshank.
It’s a verb. It means:
to avoid one’s obligations or share of work; shirk
And, that certainly sums up how I feel right now.
But instead of admitting that I feel like blowing off work or slacking on my responsibilities, I think I much prefer to say that I’d like to scrimshank this week and lay low.
It has a much better ring to it, don’t you think?
